Pottery Barn inspired owl costume

Whooooo made the cutest owl costume for her adorable soon to be 2 year old daughter? Me! I loved Pottery Barn's owl costume but it is pretty much sold out everywhere and $50 is a bit steep for me so I raided my stash and came up with this:

It is safe to say that I love this owl costume. I may just leave the cape as the costume and add a turtleneck and pants underneath. Or I may make a coordinating dress for underneath, which is more likely.

I wish I knew how to make a pattern I drew up into a pdf file, I really want to share this with everyone. And I wish I had hours of extra time to sell them in my etsy shop (see update below)! I am going to try, especially since this fits my big 4.5 year old as well!

Happy Halloween!

UPDATE! I now have 10 available for custom orders in my Etsy shop:)  I can now take custom orders on these.  They will be available in my Etsy shop in the future as I sew them, so keep looking for Christmas!

I LOVE your costume and left you a note on your etsy site in case you still have some available. My little girl loves owls and I would love to surprise her with this. The one this is modeled after at PB is cute but this one is over the top :) I hope you still have some available!

This is so cute!
If you make any more I would love one! After seeing the Pottery Barn one I have my heart set on my 15 month old daughter being an owl. Please let me know if you are planning on making anymore.

I'm in the process of making 3 of these for my kids. I too thought the price was steep but ended up spening $140 on material so not much of a savings. I bought fun fur and seems I miscalculated the amount I need and will be able to make coats for the girls as well. Yours turned out so cute.

This is flippin' way tooo cute! We have called my 10 month old our little owl since she was born and this is perfect for her. Do you only make toddler sizes?

I'm inspired by the PB Dog costume but want to retrofit that for a cow costume, but don't know how to begin to develop a pattern from it. Not very crafty. Can you give some tips on how to draw up a pattern?

This is just gorgeous! I just finished making one for my niece, but it's nowhere near as refined as yours. I love love all the little details on yours.

Would you please share a tutorial on how to make this owl costume? I tried to order one from you for last Halloween, but you were overwhelmed with orders already by the time I stumbled across this blog and your Etsy. I was hoping they'd still be for sale, or that I could find instructions to make one for my daughter. Thanks!

I was just looking at that costume. I have been scouring the internet to find a similar pattern to the pottery barn owl costume. I sewed my daughters costume last year from a picture I found. If you could share your pattern or just some helpful tips that would be wonderful. Like how many panels do you use? Could you show a back picture. My email is justj69@hotmail.com. thank you.

thanks!

I am debating whether to purchase the pottery barn costume for $54 or attempt to make one hopefully as cute as yours. Roughly how much material did you buy for the outside and lining? I tend to lean towards DIY and then spend just as much. Thanks!

It looks like we're all in the same boat! If anyone else here finds a great pattern to make something like this, PLEASE email me. I e-mailed the host of this blog a few weeks (maybe months?) ago and I haven't gotten a reply, so I am thinking this site isn't monitored anymore. I have searched high and low online to find a cute pattern like this and the PBK owl costume to no avail. The only patterns available are goofy looking. :/

PS You should be able to e-mail me by clicking on my screen name. Thanks!

I LOVE this costume! I'm trying to make one similar for my little girl this year but am having issues with the hood. I want it big and forward around her face like yours. Do you have a pattern you could share? If you need help making it into a pdf I could help with that.

You can email me at amy@creativemeblog.com

Thanks a lot!

Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it's hard to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say you've done a very good job with this.
In addition, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Chrome.

Superb Blog!
